Board Position Profiles

The Board Of Management has created a number of sub-committees to assist in the running of the club.
These committees report to the Board and membership of these consists of interested club members. If
you would like to become involved in of these committees please see the relevant Board Member in
charge.

The sub-committees and their responsibilities are posted on the noticeboard outside the office and in
Documents on Team App.

Greens

Availability of the greens will be limited this season due to No2 Green being repaired. This is scheduled for
after the last Pennant game before Christmas. No1 Green may be closed more often than usual to protect
it from too much traffic. Please be mindful of protecting the greens at all time. If it is wet, then stand on
the bank when not bowling.
Green No2. Repairs: The top will be removed and then built up and levelled. On the southern side, the
plinth, ditch and bank will be repaired along with the Southern concrete concourse. As we will be limited to
one Green after Christmas, rescheduling of games will be necessary.
Green No 2 Shelters: The club has applied for a Government grant to supply and erect shelters on the East
and West banks of No2 Green. The decision is expected by the end of October.

A word from the Selectors

More detailed documents outlining the Selection Process for each Pennant Competition is posted in the
documents section of Team App.

Saturday Pennant starts on Saturday 21 st October and Midweek on Tuesday 24 th October.

2023/24 Pennant Draw & Conditions Of Play can be viewed at https://www.bowlsvic.org.au/metropolitan-pennant/

Pennant Practice games
The selectors are treating practice game selection the same as Pennant. It is assumed all players will be
available unless they notify the Selectors via the Unavailable Lists at the club or Team App. All practice
games will be in Club Uniform.
Saturday Practice dates are 16 th , 23 rd of September and 7 th , 14 th October.
Midweek Practice dates are 10 th and 17 th October.

Voting
Voting will be completed by each player at the end of each game using the following criteria:
1) Poor
2) Fair
3) Average
4) Good
5) Excellent.  You need at least 30 of your 42 bowls in the head or in positions as called by the skip.
Please be honest when scoring a team member as a trophy is awarded for the highest achieving player at
the end of the season and the selectors use these scores as a criteria for selection.

Selection
All correspondence and discussions with the selectors should be conducted in a courteous and respectful
manner.

Selectors will meet weekly (Saturday on Wednesday evening and Midweek on Thursday 3:30 PM) to select
teams on player performance, availability and team balance. This will be done without prejudice or bias.

Please note your unavailability to play pennant on the Unavailable lists as soon as you know to allow for an
efficient and effective selection process.
Any player who is unavailable after the teams have been posted must phone of the selectors ASAP.

Selection decisions will be based on the collective opinion of the selectors with the aim of achieving a win
for the sides each week. At all times, the interest of the club will be placed ahead of individual players.
Skips and Thirds will be chosen on skill, leadership and experience.
All players will be considered not just on their level of skill but also on their weekly commitment to
pennant.

If a team is performing well, all efforts will be made to keep the team together.
Each week, selectors will receive feedback from the Skips with regards to the performance of players
within their team, prior to the selection meeting. This feedback will be taken into consideration during the
selection of the teams for the following week.

If the number of players available for the week exceeds the number required for the side, there will be a
rotation of Leads and Seconds in the lowest side.

Selectors are responsible for posting teams on the WBC Noticeboard and Team App.

Team Managers
If any players are willing to take on the role of Team Manager, please speak to a selector. It is not a difficult
task and we are willing to show you what to do. It would be good to have two players in both the first and
second sides trained as a Manager to ensure there is a backup should one be unavailable on game day.
There is a webinar for prospective Team Managers on October 9 th October. .The club will cover any costs
associated with completing the course.

Register at https://www.bowlsvic.org.au/metropolitan-pennant/
Selectors are very happy to discuss the selection process or answer questions regarding Pennant with any
player.

Social Media

Photos from around the club are often taken and posted to our social media pages to promote the club and
celebrate our activities. These photos will include both group and individual images. If you do not want
your image to be displayed on our Social Media pages please let the Secretary know so this can be
documented.

Volunteers

One of the key ingredients that helps our club thrive is the dedication and hard work of our incredible
volunteers. The more support from members means the workload is shared around meaning more people
do less. Please register your interest as a volunteer on the list posted on the portable noticeboard near the
bar.
A list of activities that generally require volunteers include:
